Chris M
On the subject of bygone concerts at the City Hall. A pal of mine who was a big folk fan persuaded me to go and see Pentangle at the City Hall. It was a brilliant show. Anyone else out there go to this - and can you put a date on it ? 1968-69 -70 ???? Cheers Chris
Chris M
This is sad - answering my own post. Must have been 68 or 69, they charted with "Once I had a Sweetheart" in May 69 and "Light Flight" in 1970. Neither were performed at the concert I went to. Light Flight was a theme tune to a TV series I think ? Cheers Chris

Bert Jansch & John Renbourn also used to tour solo and as a duo and they were brilliant.

mojoworking
Originally posted by Chris M Thanks for that info Mojo. I think the girl was Jaqui McShee ? Chris Yes, Jacqui McShee. She still has a version of the group going, but it's called Jacqui McShee's Pentangle now, since she's the only original member. Apart from Jansch & Renbourn, the original line-up had Danny Thompson on double bass and Terry Cox on drums. I didn't see the City Hall concert you speak of, but I did see them many times at various festivals and folk clubs. There is a John Renbourn DVD available containing film of 2 or 3 songs by Pentangle from 1969 and 1971.

I was there, it was 1968 I believe. I was sitting in the best (most expensive) seats at the front with my girlfriend. The hall was less than half full so Jacqui invited everyone to come and sit at the front. I remember being really ****** off about having spent the extra money. Great gig, brilliant band. Chris M
I was close to the stage and would not have been able to afford top wack tickets . I guess we must have moved down a few rows !!! Cheers Chris
gularscute
Reading this is making my mouth water. I've recently become infatuated with Pentangle after finding Basket of Light in a flea market in Whitby and taking a chance on it. I keep tracking down the odd Pentangle and Bert Jansch album here and there when I can. How I would love to hop into a time machine and be part of that audience.
