State multiculturalism has failed, says David Cameron

Recommended Posts

Some societies (or councillors) need to identify an enemy within, though, to give them something to rally around. Or rather, against.

Since it's been claimed that E11 is a no-go area for whites and I'm white and live there, forgive me for not believing your random Googling.

Multiculturism has failed?

It's an interesting perspective and the finger seems to be pointing at members of our Asian Muslim community.

What Cameron and the detractors seem to forget is that multiculturism isn't a contemporary invention, it's 'failure' didn't become apparent after two jets flew into the Twin Towers in 2001.

This country is made up of people from a wide variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds and always has been, the settlement of newcomers isn't a case of fitting a square peg into a square hole, it's about both sides changing and acclimatising to each other.

Britain has a long history of conflict between Catholics and Protestants, people of the same hue and notionally the same religion. Catholics feel uncomfortable in some areas of Glasgow and Protestants in others and sectarian violence isn't unheard of in Liverpool. I know some Sheffielders who wont accept phone calls with a 0113 prefix-all these people believe their insecurities are real and justified.

There is evidence all around us of multiculturism working and working very well. Few of us here would admit to feeling uncomfortable in the company of someone of a different colour or religion and most of us have friends or family of an alien culture-they're the stories that don't make the headlines or the content of the Prime Minister's speech. Cameron himself has a female Muslim cabinet minister, the daughter of a Dewsbury mill worker..a hotbed of Muslim radicalism apparently.

Yes, there are problems with Islamists, but they don't represent a failure in anything other than their own principles and fortunately their number is small in the scheme of things.

Integration is a two way street, the responsibility for it doesn't just lie with the alien community, after all they cant force themselves onto the rest of us, if you choose to hate them or distance yourself from them then they will find affiliation amongst familiar faces.

Oldest Tory trick in the book, yet the gullible still fall for it.

The economy is tanking, keystone policies openly ridiculed when held up to scrutiny, so let's play the race card.

What the heck is Muscular liberalism and who are these organisations that he compares to right-wing fascist parties? If he wants to be taken seriously then he should name and shame.

Banging on about publicly funded 'fascist' organisations is just nonsense unless he has some evidence to back up his argument. And even if he did have some evidence about a few rogue orgs - would this justify his attack on the Muslim community? He says it's his personal war on multiculturalism, but it seems to be only Muslims who are in the firing line.

Cameron is naive. His words will only alienate.

Newcomers to a country should integrate into their chosen countries way of life otherwise why choose that country ?

David Cameron is trying to stop there being countries within a country.

No, it's about people coming into a community and becoming part of it. Not changing it to their own homeland community and expecting others to accept it outright!
Exactly, when you come into my house you live by my house rules.
