Conrod
Perhaps this should be seen in the context of the 8 years that was spent trying to avoid allowing him a fair appeal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdelbaset_al-Megrahi#Trial For most of us, the judges' statement "There is nothing in the evidence which leaves us with any reasonable doubt as to the guilt of the first accused" is adequate. For a British person, even a deluded and misguided extreme left winger, to chip in with a comment supporting the rights of somebody like Megrahi is nauseating. wednesday1
If there was any political mileage to be obtained from this by showing Labour had anything to do with his early release, Double-Dip Dave Cameron would be on it like a ton of bricks. He has ruled out a public enquiry.

For a British person, even a deluded and misguided extreme left winger, to chip in with a comment supporting the rights of somebody like Megrahi is nauseating. It would be enough, if that was all the information available. However there are numerous other details that don't add up. Dr Hans Köchler, one of the UN observers at the trial called it a "spectacular miscarriage of justice".
HeadingNorth
Megrahi should have died in prison, he killed hundreds of people, he is a mass murderer. You know this how? You can't go by the conviction, since that was ruled unsafe - of course in Scottish law, an unsafe conviction doesn't get quashed and a retrial ordered, it just means a mandatory appeal. That appeal was never heard, precisely because he was released on compassionate grounds before it went ahead.
HeadingNorth
"He has ruled out a public enquiry. " Perhaps he knows more than us about BP's influence on the arrangement? Nothing to do with BP; everything to do with the Scottish, or British, or both, governments wanting to avoid his appeal being heard.
