BritPat
The answer is child not spouse. Given that self sacrifice is not an option in this scenario saving the child is the 'right' answer from an evolutionary/genetic perspective. Save the spouse and both you and your spouse lose the opportunity for your genes to survive. Save the child and you get to keep your child, the child keeps its life and the sacrificed spouse retains the opportunity of their genes surviving longer. In the circumstances you are doing your spouse a favour.
Treatment
Sounds like you go to some cracking parties! What did you discuss after this, euthanasia? More probably do you leave the cold water running when you slash your wrists.

themels
i would choose my child without even blinking, however ive got 2 children so if it was the case i could only save one.... i wouldnt save any, i would die with them both. i dont like thinking about things like this. Both of your children dying is preferable to one of them dying?

NightFlight
I see the "I wouldn't choose/i'd sacrifice myself/etc" answers as a rather cowardly way out tbh.
splodgeyAl
A child is your own blood, spouse isn't.Yes, but a spouse you choose, a child you're lumbered with. I'd choose neither, as that is the case
