Mister M
Same as most other politicians. Ex-Labour MP Ruth Kelly joins HSBC Labour's Lord Mandelson joins bank Lazard 'Revolving doors' row as ex-Foreign Office Minister Baroness Symons joins bank with links to Iraq contracts Lord McFall (MP until 2010) joins new Scots bank venture And don't get me started on Tony Blair's links to both JP Morgan and Firerush (Blair's own investment bank). Quite right. Polticians are very keen to talk about 'choice' in public services as if it's a good thing and what everyone wants. Yet the most important choice a citizen can make is the choice of government, yet it's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the 3 main parties as they have similar policies and talk the same language

andyofborg
Actually, German courts have in the past rejected EU Law on the basis that it is incompatible with their constitution - so one would assume we could do the same. we are drifting off the more fun topic of coalition bashing, but the ECHR is nothing to do with the EU or its laws. donkey
it's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the 3 main parties as they have similar policies and talk the same language that's because it's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the politicians and the corporate/'financial executives
andyofborg
it's becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the 3 main parties as they have similar policies and talk the same language they are increasingly being drawn from the same pot of people of similar background private school -> ppe at oxford -> special advisor/policy wonk in a party -> safe party seat by and large they have never had a real job and are unable to relate to the ordinary person in the street. if we as a population want to change that then we need to do one of two things a) join whatever party suits your general political inclination and when the opportunity to select a potential candidate the don't pick one like the above. of course, if they are really outstanding then you should pick them, but in general pick someone from a different background. b) form a new party which preferentially selects candidates from ordinary backgrounds, but not to the extend that a really outstanding candidate from a non-ordinary background is rejected out of hand. either way, we need to reclaim our democracy! anyone want to join the New Chartist party? Loubbe
Things like this make me feel ill. If the SUN started publishing stories like this, instead of the Guardian, then maybe their may well be a bit of outrage generated. One thing is certain, we are certainly not all in this together. RobfromLeeds
The website '38 degrees' is trying to start a campaign against this proposal (even if it is just to raise awareness that it is happening). You can 'vote' to try and get them to start a campaign against this here. Tehy have already done capaigns on the forest sell-off and Osbourne's tax dogding http://38degrees.uservoice.com/forums/78585-campaign-suggestions/suggestions/1467887-raise-public-awareness-of-the-highly-damaging-prop?ref=title
