Apparantly you need a tv license to have a computer and mobile phone.

Recommended Posts

You only need a TV Licence in this case if you use those devices to watch live broadcast television. Some mobile phones, and all computers can recieve these signals, but if you don't use them then you don't need a licence.

No they won't. "Live television" is what is currently being broadcast. The is no limit for the time taken for the signal to be encoded, transmitted to you and decoded for it to be classed as "non-live". A brand new Freeview box will be able to display a picture several seconds ahead of an old Sky box - that doesn't make the Sky picture non-live. It also doesn't matter if the programme being broadcast is live, as-live or recorded - they're all still classed as being viewed live.

In terms of broadcasting, there are only two type - live and timeshifted. Timeshifted programmes (such as iPlayer / ITV Player / 4OD / Demand Five / Sky Player) do not require a TV licence in order to view them.

Technically, both their live and timeshifted programming is available using the BBC iMP software, under the iPlayer branding. Either way, it's a technicallity, you need a licence to watch live programmes, and don't for timeshifted ones.

She thought she did; she thought she could bar entry to the licence inspectors, just as you do.

She was wrong, and ended up £1000 the poorer for it.

She was right, she didnt know the rules.

We have a bent system with bent rules made by bent people.

But there ware ways around it.

If uou dont believe me then just google it. Its all there,

The last time we had someone on the forum making this claim, I posted a link to the story of a woman who'd been prosecuted, convicted and fined for having no licence, despite her having never allowed them in.

If the TVL come to your house without a police escort and a search warrant, you can just say no.

That's easy, just refuse admittance, they have no powers to enter your house, and TV detector vans are an urban myth, there's no such thing.

Wrong, we were 'caught' a few years back, and parked right outside the house was the TV detector van in all its glory (<REMOVED>)

What's the problem? If you have these things you have to pay for them. If you can't afford to pay for them, you shouldn't have them.

So many people these days try to be something they are not. All this new technology is expensive and is meant for people that have money. Getting these things on the never, never and then not being able to pay for licences is a mugs game.

"Don't buy what you can't afford" is the best advice I can offer.
