The training of Nurses

Recommended Posts

So nurses do not have the key to the drug trolley and they do not dispense drugs they only administer them.

I would suggest you get your facts right Nurses dispense drugs on a doctors prescription.

Under the UK CC Registration Nurses are not allowed to assume the post of a junior doctor, and are not allowed to prescribe drugs.

You talk delegation do you mean that their responsibilities for basic nursing care is beneath them and pass it on to the less qualified staff, you think that is the way it should be and is acceptable.

I don't think so.

Nurse can prescribe drugs, that's why they are called Nurse prescriber's . They can specialise in their field and are able to prescribe different drugs depending on their training.

when a Nurse delegates it is not because they do not care or think personal care is beneath them, but they just do not have the time to do everything that is required for their patients on each shift. There are more than Nurses and health care assistants that work on wards, there are cleaners etc and each one does their job to help the other. I think that unless you have actually been a Nurse and working on a very busy ward then you never understand how difficult it is to organise your day so that the very sick are catered for first and knowing that everything can change from one minute to the next. Yes the Nurse may not go around personally and see to everyone needing a bedpan but this does not mean that is beneath her/him. I personally feel that patients are at their most vulnerable when then need to ask help with something as intimate as going to the toilet and never think it is beneath me to help someone with their basic human rights and dignity.
