Other employers agree:

Employers prefer workers from new EU states to 'lazy' Britons

Migrants workers from the new European Union states are filling jobs that indigenous UK workers are not prepared to do, but for much lower wages, new research shows today.

Three quarters of employers said they believed European enlargement two years ago had been good for business, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation said.

A survey of 1,000 migrants and employers by the social policy research and development charity, found employers used highly qualified migrant workers for low-skilled and low-waged work. The findings will be seen as confirming the view of the Bank of England that immigration keeps down wage inflation by relieving labour shortages.

Britain would have seen slower growth and higher inflation, had it not been for the recent wave of immigration, a report has said.

The Ernst and Young ITEM Club also said the UK would grow by 3% a year if immigration continued to rise at the same rate as in the past two years...

And low inflation was achieved by keeping a lid on wage rises.

The ITEM Club estimates 1.5 million immigrants have arrived since 1997.

"Foreign workers come to the UK and obviously help us push up production levels," Professor Peter Spencer, chief economic adviser to the ITEM Club, told the BBC.

"They also help keep the lid on inflation."

Keeping a lid on inflation means keeping wages low. So as not to be confused keeping wages low will result in higher profits for the wealthy and the rich.

They are 3rd class citizens without a social safety net. They are paws being used to devalue the labour of the working class.

They should be given equal access to the social safety net.

There you go a direct racist comment and proof that immigrants keep wages low.

If you employed two people, one a Brit who phoned in sick because he "had a bit of a cold" and one a Pole who cheerfully did the work far better, would you be racist for keeping the Pole on?

But what incentive do our native, long-term unemployed have to get off their backsides now? That's a few-hundred-thousand jobs they could have done, which would have improved the country's economy by increasing the tax take and lowering the benefits spend!

New Labour (yes, I blame them because it all happened on their watch) could have killed two birds with one stone but capitulated to big business.

And we'll be paying the price for a long while yet.

I don't blame the immigrants, I'd have done the same in their shoes.

But our government should be putting the interests of its citizens first.

Very little.

I violently disagree with a lot of what you say but you are right on the button with this post. Polish people are happy, willing and able to do the jobs our feckless layabouts refuse to do.

What's wrong?

It's not the Poles' fault, so why are we paying people to lie on the settee skinning up and watching cartoons?
