teenyweeny
Thank you for the clarification, I work with a bloke who has the strongest Yorkshire accent I've heard and sometimes I find myself nodding along without a clue what he's talking about. i was like that when i moved to rotherham, they call a cubby hole ..a poggy :hihi:
clairelaw123
What accent do you have & how long have you been in Sheffield? I don't know what accent I have really. I never picked up the accent from the place I grew up I was always asked where I was from there and the same in Sheffield. I've only lived here 4 years though. Hots on
a cubby hole or a lobby hole is usually the cupboard under the stairs When I lived on Deerlands avenue there was a small room in between the kitchen and the toilet that my dad refered to as "coil(coal?) house"

Fareast
When I lived in Sheffield, I was made to feel ashamed of my accent when I visited Barnsley. " It 's not ' boots ' an' 'coats ', yer daft prat, it 's ' boo-its ' an' ' coits '. " If I went into an emporium and asked , " Excuse me, my little daffodil .....but do you retail edible merchandise in this establishment ? " they 'd look at me gone out-----especially the men. It must have been my dee-da heritage------anyhow I got fed up with it and went shopping in Rotherham instead.
