Ms Macbeth
What is ILR ? Indefinite leave to remain, sometimes also known as refugee status. Some asylum seekers are awarded this status, which means they are entitled to live and work in the UK, for the rest of their lives if they wish. Mecky
Indefinite Leave to Remain. Its a specific visa that gives you the right to stay in the UK (but does not give you the rights to social benefits). They would need to take and pass the Life in the UK test before they could qualify for ILR. Once someone qualifies for their ILR they can then apply for citizenship and a British passport. You can get benefits on ILR, you can even get limited benefits with LTR

Thankyou for your help. This would mean they did not receive a pension or be entitled to a paid care home stay then so we still have my original question.
