If we are all drinking ourseves to death why are pubs closing down wherever you go. If it is all a lie then what is the worst that will happen? Global warming - we end up with a better, healthier, world to live in. Drinking too much - you end up feeling better and spending less money. Now, what's the worst that can happen if it isn't a lie and we ignore it? Try googling "cost of alcohol to society /NHS" for the answer to your question. It seems reasonable to tax people who use alcohol more than those who don't.
