jonnythefox
Is the bank holiday for the royal wedding a national bank holiday or is it up to individual companies discretion? we have been told today by our managment that if we take the day off we wont det paid. I dont give a <removed> about the wedding but would like the day off with pay.
madasfish
The working time directive says that employers have to allow their employees to have 28 paid holiday days a year - this can include bank / public holidays....(although it does not have to if the employer wants to be more generous)this means this extra bank holiday can be taken from the 28 days yearly allowance or it could be given as an extra- either unpaid or paid. Flutterbyes
does anyone know if the schools are planning to take the day off or not as there is nothing on my holiday list about it!
HeadingNorth
It is a national bank holiday. Whether you get all national bank holidays as days off will depend on the terms in your contract; it's quite possible for both halves or your question to be answered "yes." Your contract may specify "8 bank holidays," in which case you aren't entitled to a ninth. Or it may only say "bank holidays," in which case you get all of them however many there happen to be. Or it may say neither; some jobs treat bank holidays as normal working days and you just get your 28 (or more) days.
focemal
I only hope it doesn't interfere with the snooker.

Now that does seem rather illogical - what time is the actual wedding - not that early surely (if you are being given a late start in order for you to be able to watch it on TV)
