Do you enjoy collecting dog ends?

Recommended Posts

I've just observed a man at the bottom of The Moor unscrewing the ash tray gizmos on the tops of litter bins and collecting all the dog ends, ash, spit and other unsavoury refuse in a small plastic bag. He then put the bag in his pocket before proceeding to the next bin.

He wasn't doing this in any official capacity, it must be his hobby or something. Maybe he was collecting them as part of an arts project or maybe he just collects and displays them in individual ash trays back home.

Does anyone on here partake of this particular hobby? Any tips on the best bins or advice for someone wishing to take up this exciting pastime?

There is a bloke dressed quite smart in a suit who does this in town every day.

People have nicknamed him "Tabhunter"

If you are in town early in the mornings you will see plenty of strange people, there is one who has a pinstriped suit, briefcase etc who goes around all the phone boxes looking in the money rejection compartment then he toddles off up Bank Street.

He might have been a gardener. Apparently if you collect up old tab ends and soak them you can make a Nicotine spray that kills some garden bugs.

Ooh, hadn't thought of that. He didn't look like a complete down and out so that is a possibility.
