Do you go metal detecting ?

No, but it set my curiosity going.

 

Xenia, many people insist upon the Bromborough (Lancashire), Dingsmere (Mersey) or Burnswark (near Scotland) sites, but I agree with Michael Wood with Catcliffe/Brinsworth (well, he used to believe in this site- he now proposes the Vale of York).

 

The geography here is correct according to the description by Egil Skallagrimmson, the Icelandic warrior-poet who fought for Athelstan, and later chroniclers such as Symeon of Durham and John of Worcester state that the Viking fleet (from Dublin) sailed into the Humber.
