Offbeat - Sheffield's legendary leftfield indie night

~* Annual Fancy Dress Night! *~

Come dressed as an indie, pop or rock star of your choice - Offbeat lucky dip gift containing a couple of random free 7"s or CDs for *everyone in fancy dress* (they could be great, they could be... well, not so great!), plus sweets.

And we'll have a few prizes for best-dressed artists/bands!

Fancy dress NOT compulsory, but you won't win a prize without it. We usually seem to persuade about 50 of you to look the part.

So get your thinking caps on, scour those charity shops, and let's see what you all come up with. Costumes seem to have got more entertaining year on year, and yet there are loads of indie/pop/rock stars who have never been 'done' yet; we're yet to see an Elvis, Hendrix, Michael Jackson (?!), Madonna, etc. amongst many many retro possibilities, the last few years have thrown up plenty of new artists with eccentric dress sense, (Lady Gaga meat dress look anyone?) and there is HUGE scope for band entries, which have been disappointingly rare in the past. Perhaps use the Facebook group to arrange collaborative efforts?

And then there's always a few who take a more, um, interpretative slant, as 2006's papier mache 'Half Man Half Biscuit' outfit confirmed.

If you are new to all this, and want to know what the fuss is about, simply check out the pictures from previous years at http://www.offbeat.group.shef.ac.uk/frames/gallfra.htm (scroll down a bit), and also at:

respectively.

And all this soundtracked by the usual Offbeat mix of classic and current leftfield indie, pop-punk, C86, new indiepop underground and lo-fi sounds from the likes of ...
