Cyclists and road rage..

Recommended Posts

Road tax maintains road.

And you're yet another who falls into the trap of ignorance!

Since 1937 there has been no direct relationship between the tax and government expenditure on public roads.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_tax#United_Kingdom

and from "Better Transport":

MYTH: Drivers pay road tax so have a right to new roads

FACT: Roads are paid for out of general taxation and council tax. Motorists originally paid a 'road fund license' which was ring-fenced to pay for road building and repair. However this was abolished in 1926, by then-Chancellor of the Exchequer Winston Churchill, who feared that the fund would lead to drivers feeling that they owned the road.

Modern 'road tax' - Vehicle Excise Duty - goes into general taxation. Roads are either paid for from council tax (in the case of smaller, local road schemes) or general taxation (for larger, regional and national schemes). Pedestrians and cyclists therefore contribute just as much towards the cost of road building and maintenance as drivers.

Road tax maintains road. The footpaths are maintained by council, not very well admittedly. I'm not sure that cyclists need to pay road tax but they sure need insurance as most of them at some point ride on footpaths and should have to compensate the pedestrians they knock over or the wing mirrors they knock off parked cars but that would be more difficult to prove unless we stand outside watching our cars:D

If they want to ride around in a city where there isn't much room that's up to them they shouldn't be allowed to ride their bikes at rush hour!

Trig

Here's a question for you to ponder; If cyclists used their cars rather than bikes during the rush hour would there be:

a. More room on the roads.

b. Less room on the roads.

Please show your working.

No different, if they used their cars like they use their bikes they'll be driving on the footpaths:D

Wouldn't be the first time but I meant that bikes are a great form of recreation but are nothing more than a hazzard and annoyance at really busy times on the road.

Trig

Annoying you as they pass you and get to work before you presumably.

it annoys me being held up constantly by people who don't pay to maintain the roads!

sigh

EVERYONE pays to maintain the roads through general taxation or local council tax whatever, even cyclists.

You know, most cyclists also run a car, but they choose to leave it at home.
