Did the Conservatives win .................. No

hiya what i never understood what happened to the money that the conservatives didn't spend when they were in power, like no new schools, no new hospitals, and what about thatcher forwarding a memo to social security workers not to tell anybody what they can claim, unless they know themselves

what to claim for, and what about north sea oil, now thats a sticky subject.

when it comes down to it we know nowt.

As far as I recall, labour were not that keen on discussions with the lib dems, and basicaly told them to go and negotiate with the Tories...one thing they refused to do was...cling to power at any cost..

Labour knew the true depths of the financial hole - knowing that would you have wanted to hang around to sort it out? Far better to let someone else sort out your mess then you can whinge about how they have done it and hope people remember the pain and not the real cause of the pain...

Just one question …………….. Why didn’t the Conservatives sweep to power with a landslide majority if things were so bad.

Because the true extent of the merde wasn't known till the books (and the infamous " 'Dear chief secretary, I'm afraid to tell you there's no money left" note) were opened?

What ..............

They had 13 years to prepare and still ******* it up. :hihi:

It's quite simple - the government has access to and can manipulate the figures and cover the true extent of the financial hole. At least they were good enough to let the incoming Chief Secretary of the treasury know the state of the economy when he got into his office.

As to your 13 years to prepare you could equally say that Labour had 13 years to work on retaining power and blew it. Politics is a fickle business.
