Save Childrens Cardiac Surgery @ Leeds General

Recommended Posts

the service is not being 'taken away' , it is being moved for good clinical governance reasons.

So the fact that Newcastle and Liverpool, are at least twice the distance

that Leeds is from Sheffield.

Would not make any difference chances of recovery of critically ill child?

I think it would.

Leicester isn't that far away.

Which Daven will know perfectly well given their profession.

In that case they should know that twice as far to travel

is different to

" Leicester is not far away"

Or dosen't the distance travelled by a seriously ill patient

have any bearing on the the outcome of their recovery?

I would expect it would - but Daven's post suggests otherwise. Perhaps they will let you know.

As a result of the NHS's review of paediatric heart surgery provision across the country, the Children's Heart Surgery Unit at the Yorkshire Heart Centre in Leeds is at risk.

The unit provides specialist surgery and care to children from all over Yorkshire and the Humber, Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire. If it closed, hundreds of children who require life-saving surgery each year would have to travel long distances, possibly hundreds of miles to another facility. This could put their lives in greater jeopardy.

It would also cause severe distress for the patients and their families, and would see the end opf a great team of spcialist surgeons and experienced nurses, who have worked so hard to provide unrivalled service and care.

We believe closing this unit would affect not only the hundreds of families who rely on it each year, but everyone in the region who believes Yorkshire should retain its essential healthcare services.

The Childrens Heart Surgery Unit MUST remain open.

i will be signing it, this is where my son was sent 8 years ago for his heart scans, as due to his condition his heart was enlarged and he was suffering heart failure:( they were able to help diagnose his condition as something else which was causing the strain on his heart, sadly i lost him at 5 days old. he did die in the ambulance on the way to leeds and they got him breathing again, i really believe if he had to travel any further he would not have made it back to sheffield alive to see his family before he went to heaven....

but all i can say its wrong that they are putting something so important at risk:rant:

I think the post above sums up why the distance from help is so important,

and why Leeds centre should be kept open
