lubylou12
I think the post above sums up why the distance from help is so important, and why Leeds centre should be kept open Totally agree. thanks guys, distance can be a matter of life or death, my son barely made it to and from leeds without stopping breathing, yes he died anyway but at least i got to hold him while he passed away rather then him having to travel further then leeds and back to sheffield and being told on his return that he was already gone. I really hope this petition does something and they stay open, ive posted it to my twitter and facebook, got a few others to sign it x
Daven
the service is not being 'taken away' , it is being moved for good clinical governance reasons. Emotions aside - please read the above post. The NHS cannot sustain the number of Paediatric Cardiac Units that are in existance - this is reality. Competence in the very specialised area of Paediatric Cardiothoracics cannot be maintained with the number of Units currently in existance. It is necessary to amalagmate some of the Units to ensure a top notch service is provided to the WHOLE of the country - not just in Yorkshire. Whichever Unit is moved there will be parents up in arms about the extra few miles they may have to travel for their sick children to be treated - but the overall standard of treatment will improve - this is the aim of the decision anyway. Daven
ok so what about the children that are too poorly to travel that far, or dont even make it that far? they wont get a chance to see the new improved treatment:confused: There will always be children who are too sick to travel to the specialised hospital that could treat them. Sadly, that's the way it is.

My undersanding of Lubyloos post was that it about transferring a very sick child to a hospital near enough that could treat them.
Daven
My undersanding of Lubyloos post was that it about transferring a very sick child to a hospital near enough that could treat them. Mine too - I was referring to the fact that there will always be children in smaller hospitals who are too sick to survive any journey by ambulance to a specialised unit that may be able to treat rare illnesses. Artifact
It is disgusting how low this unelected government will sink to cut costs. It is now seriously considering allowing children to die in order to cut costs. They are despicable! How some people can defend this just because they are diehard tories is beyond me. It is signed.
