ChrisT70
no set amount, and unfortunately the older the person is when they contract it will reduce the amount payable, should the case be proven. someone aged 40 in a high paying job might get £200k, someone 80 with little or no income can be less than £30k. there might be a claim payable anyway from the govt (pneumoconiosis etc workers compensation scheme) but not sure if that is paid after the death, usually paid while the person is living and can range from about £5k to £30k depending on age of victim. you need to be speaking to Irwin mitchell and looking on their specialist website for more info. HeadingNorth
you need to be speaking to Irwin mitchell and looking on their specialist website for more info. If there is already an ongoing claim, I'd imagine there is already a lawyer involved.
Treatment
A claim that I was involved in was a chap who developed this aged 52, from alleged exposure in his 20's. His widow got circa £200,000.

Treatment
Do you know where he was exposed to asbestos? Can you get compensation if the place is unknown? I don't know if that was addressed to me but basically it is essential to write down everywhere/ every organisation that the person concerned ever worked for, even on a sub-contract basis. ChrisT70
Do you know where he was exposed to asbestos? Can you get compensation if the place is unknown? the government will pay out a one off lump sum under the pneumoconiosis compensation act to diagnised cases of meothelioma, regardless of who is at fault, but whatever they pay out has to be repaid upon any sucessful private claim that is paid. the lump sum they pay is age dependant and doesnt go that high. to get a succesful private claim you need documented evidence of where the person worked, ni payment records etc, proof of the exposure etc, its all quite complicated, and the solicitor needs to be able to pin down an existing insurance liability back to the employer concerned (if they still exist etc). Lady Agatha
Just for information for anyone living in Derbyshire/ East Midlands with an asbestos related disease you can get free advice and help from Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team (DAST). http://www.asbestossupport.co.uk/. I don't know if there's a Sheffield/Yorkshire equivalent.

Can anyone help? just put it in the hands of a good solicitor. they have details of all the big corporate insurance companies who were trading at the time and who now holds those liabilities. you wont be able to do it all on your own without lots of probs. David Cass @ Irwin Mitchell is very good.
