madasfish
why are nurses putting food out of the reach of the elderly ..... I dont understand this Neither do I - Pattricia does though and it is the reason she does not donate to Comic Relief - see her posts on this thread. Although actually, on reflection, begining to wish had not rise to it an mentiond it again. Doh.
DaFoot
Hmmm. 'Comic' Relief reappears every few years, so obviously the changes the money makes are not sustainable. MacMillan Trust Children in Need NSPCC RSPCA Some examples of charities that are always asking for money. Does that mean the work they do do with the money raised is pointless? If you donate to charity, do they say "thankyou, we've got enough now, our job is done" ?

madasfish
Even though another poster has provided a link with information that Comic Relief has funded work for elder abuse in the UK. So no basis for her stated reason for Pattrica to not donate to Comic Relief then. Hope she has seen the link.
pattricia
If we keep telling nurses to feed our elderly why don't they? First of all we dont keep telling them, because a lot of visitors and staff etc; dont realise that the arent being fed properly. Im not saying that this happens every day in every hospital, but it does happen. Years ago there was Firvale Hospital, which was a hospital JUST for old people. There were male and female wards, the patients had nice meals, and were turned regularly if they were bedridden. When this was closed, the elderly were admitted to general wards, and as nurses are always run off their feet, and are short staffed, they could not look after all the patients properly. I hope this explains things a little better. So its more nurses and ones specifically trained in Geriatrics(which most nurses do not want to specialise in) I do feel its rather silly to keep sending money to Africa year after year, when the money could be diverted to better causes in this country. I have seen the link and believe it is just a study into elder abuse. This could be in the home, in hospital etc;
