mattrialeo
Does anybody know what the old stone building behind the war memorial (at wadsley bridge near the travellers) is? and does anyone know what the stone near the entrance of the memorial said? (it's worn away)

boozy.bird
The stone building at the back of the travellers was an old chapel.....it was used in the 60s & early 70s as an office furniture warehouse....it used to be up a small lane the lane was the back entrance to the houses & shops that used to be below John Fairess funerals before it extended it's grounds. The shop that used to be nearest to the memorial was Beres first pork shop way back at the begining of the 60s The lane also had an entrance for intal. Between the travellers and the lane there were also some small cottages set back off the road. I think that they may have belonged to the Wilson family (law brothers )at one stage...... as did the travellers the old guy named piggy wilson used to have a pond at the back of the travellers with coy carp in
