People on benefits and carboot sales

Recommended Posts

sounds like hatred to people out of work to me, have no money have to sell your car, why should you tell the dole, im out of work, everything i own has been bought out of wages, why if i sell my car should i go with no benefits, wouldnt anyone whos in work like to think they can keep there belongings before there made redundant?

i love the irony of your post and your user name... rich indeed!.

seriously though i don't begrudge genuine benefit claimants but only as a short term solution. in the long term work has to be the way forward.

how do people who live on benefits stand if they were to gather all their junk together and sell it at a carboot sale?. i am assuming this doesn't have to be declared to the sosh?. however is it fair that if they are making money on the side that it isn't taken into account when they are paid money from the state?. i reckon it is not fair and that they should have to declare the money that they make so that they get less benefit paid.

What about the person working, who doesn't declare carbooting as an extra income to the taxman?

diggory im called richard its my name not my nature lol, yes i agree work has to be a way forward not the benefit system, ive worked for 29 years i left school 30 years ago, ive had 3 children in the last 3 years, im not qualified in anything, the benefits agency wont subsidise me for 3 years to go to college. i left a £23k job to move to the coast and am better off on benefits, my partner is ill the benefits agency say i dont have to work cus i have to look after my kids and partner. in june my benefits will go to £24k a year tax free equivalent to £33k working, best i could get in work is £7 an hour, which doesnt pay for a family of 5!

surely whether it is me on a builing site all day earning a living or someone on a carboot sale earning £50- £100 in a few hours it still constitutes a living. they are still earning money no matter how they earnt it and as such they shouldn't also be getting benefit money too.

There is a difference between folks who set up a stall at a car boot sale to clear their garage and folks who spend the week buying stock and have a sale every weekend. Somewhere in between a hobby has turned to a business.
