truthlogic
Finlay after 8 year in Guantanamo bay and being subjected to at least 183 waterboarding techniques Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is finally to stand trial. after 8 years of torture he has finally admitted too: 911 2002 Bali bombings, Indonesia, 1993 World Trade Center bombing, the murder Daniel Pear and the shoe bomber plot without going into to detail about any of the above , after 8 years of torture what would you admit too? what kind of person would you be after 183 water boarding sessions? and why have us as a society accepted torture for our so called safety? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12964588
Longcol
Torture is completely unacceptable and any "confessions" obtained using torture should never be allowed in court. (BTW truthlogic - I thought the BBC didn't report this sort of thing).

Vague_Boy
and why have us as a society accepted torture Because we're the good guys don'tcha know? So it's OK for us to invade other countries (well, those that have resources to plunder) and to torture people. Cos we're the good guys, see? Now those evil dictators (i.e. those we don't support and arm), well they've got to be gotten rid of. Because.... well... they're bad. If they liked us we'd treat them better. It's all very simple if you think about it (Or do I mean if you don't think about it?)

It's a shame - the abhorrence of torture might be something we have in common, but I do find it difficult to engage seriously with someone who tells such massive lies, publically and on a regular basis. Keep him in and round it off to 200. On a more serious note, if it's proven that he's been tortured then surely the case will be thrown out. Or does the US accept evidence based on torture? Thorpist
Are Khalid's confessions just confessions of involvement or has he given proof of is involment under torture. If the torture of this person saves more people from being killed by madmen then I would consider it the lesser of two evils. After a lot less than 8 days I would admit to anything. HeadingNorth
Torture is completely unacceptable and any "confessions" obtained using torture should never be allowed in court. They are not allowed in court. Military tribunals set their own rules. If he's actually to stand trial in a criminal court, much will turn on whether waterboarding counts as torture. President Shrub famously claimed that it does not.
