Bad experience at Yankees

Has anyone else been to Yankees on Ecclesall Road lately and found it terrible? I'm not a regular poster on the Forum, but I had such a bad experience tonight that I feel I need to share it. I ordered the Combo platter, which consisted of BBQ ribs, onion rings, chicken nuggets, and chicken wings, along with a side of 4 sauces in a stand. The ribs were about 98% fat--I dug and dug and couldn't find any meat on them to eat. The chicken wings were dried out. The onion rings were the kind that don't have any real onions in them. And the chicken nuggets were worse than what they used to serve at my school lunches.

When the waitress came over to ask if I was done with my sauces (mind you, my partner and I still had full plates of food so I thought it was terribly rude that she was trying to clear the table before we were anywhere near finished), I told her that my food wasn't edible. I explained what was wrong and told her I didn't want to order anything else. She took my meal off the bill, but left everything else on. We had to wait ages to get the bill, and when we finally got it after repeatedly attempting to flag someone down (both servers spent the entire time either chatting to their friends at one of the tables or standing in the back talking to the cooks), no one came to collect our money because they were too busy chatting again. When I got up to ask to pay and voice my displeasure, I was barely acknowledged.

I was appalled at both the food AND the service and I will certainly not be returning. As an American myself, I'm embarrassed that this is the standard being portrayed as "American"--it is certainly no where near the standards I would expect in the States. I would love to see a true American-style restaurant in Sheffield that could actually produce decent food with quality service. Yankees is certainly NOT that restaurant.

Shouldn't worry mate, that place has been around for donkey's years and no-one would think it represents American standard of service. Two Sheffield lads opened it anyway, not Americans ;)

You could try Uncle Sams, if it still there, just further down the road, or Sw anky Frank's on Woodseats, although that's run by Italians :D

You should have gone across the street to Champs. Ive found them to be the closest thing to American bar style food. Service is slow, but food is good and worth what you pay. They even sell the Bloomin Onion...

I used to work off Eccy Rd and have been forced to go to Yankees on team meals. Hated every second of it...Overpriced for the food served (McDonalds makes a better burger!!) and service was lacking. Hopefully never have to go back there again.

It's a shame you had such a bad experience at Yankees because it is actually a really nice place.

I used to work there so to shed some light on your experience - it's for health and safety reasons that the relish trays cant be left on the tables for too long, kids try dipping their food into the sauces and putting their fingers in them etc. so health and safety policy requires that the sauces are not left on tables for more time than necessary. I'm sure there was enough time to get what sauces you wanted.

I think it's acceptable that she took your meal off the bill if you were not pleased and didn't eat it but why should they take everything else off? It's a business at the end of the day not a free for all. I think it's unreasonable to expect to get everything for free because ONE of the meals was displeasing... I don't think there are many restaurants who would do that. Some wouldn't even knock it off I'm sure!
