Shogun
Every thing you buy these days seems to fall to bits brake down or is a nightmare to get fixed ,from cars, electrical goods, furniture ,nothing seems to last or have any build quality at all, what's gone wrong with manufacturing? Korl101
It's called built in obsolescence. By failing it makes you purchase a new one, thereby creating an ongoing revenue stream for the companies involved. But not everything is so badly made. In most product areas you will find manufacturers who specialise in product high quality goods.

Strix
oh ok - thpoil thport the japanese invented 'fit for purpose', so your electrical goods now only have a design life of their limited guarantee period, whereas British and American domestic products used to have a lifespan of approx 25 years (there are many Hoover Juniors and Seniors still in service!). The only thing is, it used to cost about two month's salary for a washing machine or vacuum cleaner, but we're just not prepared to pay those prices these days with so much cheap, disposable crap available these days Clothing has gone the same way
0742Sheff
There was a guy on radio Sheffield last week explaining that most new laptops these days come with a battery that is actually designed to last the warranty period and then fall away in performance. I have an old laptop at home that still holds 5 hours charge (internet browsing with screen on full brightness), after some 8 years
