Dangerous cyclists

Recommended Posts

Why not? Car drivers have to, it's called letting other road users know what you are doing or do you think we can read your mind?

Your grasp of the Highway Code is as shaky as Bassman62's.

A metre and a half when two of you are side me side is almost 10 feet. So cars should drive on opposite carriageway or wait behind two numptys doing 5 miles an hour because they can't get past. Drivers, unlike cyclists can also get prosecuted for driving too slowly:roll::roll:

Ah hang on a minute, what's this? Yes, it actually seems that you're beginning to get it. Hurrah!

So can you tell me how you interpret this section.

•look all around before moving away from the kerb, turning or manoeuvring, to make sure it is safe to do so. Give a clear signal to show other road users what you intend to do (see 'Signals to other road users')

Or this:-

•look well ahead for obstructions in the road, such as drains, pot-holes and parked vehicles so that you do not have to swerve suddenly to avoid them. Give a clear signal to show other road users what you intend to do (see 'Signals to other road users')

It's incredible. You really don't understand it at all do you?

Have you checked out the parts about motorists or is it just the bits about cyclists that you are a bit slow on?

Ahh now I get it you're saying that cyclists because they're let loose on other road users without having a mandatory proficiency test should be excused for their stupidity.

Yes but you see car drivers have to pass a test before they're let loose on the roads.

If Cyclists had to pass a test we wouldn't be having this discussion.

What makes you think that having a test would stop dangerous cycling?

Or am I wrong when I assume that most of those drivers prosecuted for motoring offences have actually undertaken training and passed a driving test?

A friend of mine went on a speed-awareness course last week. He commented on how many drivers, (you know, those highly qualified expert pilots of motor vehicles) did not know that [A] where there are street lights and no other signs, the speed limit is 30mph and that the National Speed Limit for cars on a dual carriageway is 70 and not 60

The problem is not cars. The problem is not cycles. The problem is PEOPLE. PEOPLE drive cars and ride bikes and thus you will always have some PEOPLE who do idiotic things regardless of their mode of transport.

You sound like a cyclist who is completely out of place and unsafe on the public highway.

You're the one with no sense of anticipation who is shocked and surprised when a cyclist ahead of you goes around a parked car rather than slam into the back of it or go over it.

Perhaps you shouldn't be on the road.

Perhaps cyclists that havn't passed a driving test ought to have some sort of test before using the roads, but not cyclists that already hold driving licences because, and I repeat, most cyclists are also motorists, or have been motorists at some point, this is what gives them the confidence to be on the roads in the first place.

Several pages on, and Bassman has still not answered the basic question.

Cycle approaching a parked car.

Will it:

a) Go around it, just like any other vehicle?

b) plow into the back of it?

The whole question seems to revolve around a lack of anticipation/observation on the driver's part here...

I think car drivers should have to take a driving test then they wouldn't speed, drive and park on pavements, cut each other up, tailgate, have incidents of road rage, drive without due care and attention, cause death by dangerous driving, drive whilst drunk, park on zig-zags, go through red lights, drive the wrong way up one way streets etc

Oh..hang on..
