TJC1
Tourism isn't a defence of monarchy. At most it is an interesting aside. If it is a defence then it is a defence for other things. Russia should have Communism back because people like visiting Lenin's body, Poland should gas jews because people visit Auschwitz. The only defence for monarchy should be "it is the best system of government that we have", and it isn't. Agreed, tourism is NOT the argument for defence of a monarchy, its the chicken and the egg syndrome.

Harleyman
Ah. Bang on time to answer the tourist question. Are royal residences that are lived in by a royal family a bigger draw to tourists than royal residences that are merely empty buildings? I dont think it makes much difference either way. Ever visitied Hampron Court Palace during the tourist season? Graceland, Presley's home in Memphis and Monticello Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia continually draw very large crowds year in and year out. emma royd
At a guess I'd say millions are interested and thousands not But isn't it puzzling that those who say they have no interest seem interested enough to devote hours of their time to posting on the subject?:hihi::hihi:
mattleonard
Or..the government don't have to cut public services making everyone poor and in massive debt the rest of their lives. Um, except that then the government would then be in even more massive debt than they already are, having an increasingly negative effect on our economy ergo... making everyone poor and in massive debt the rest of their lives. Anyway, the royals are well equipped to pay for there own wedding! Doesn't it make people poor having to pay for all those services. How do you think that education and the health service is funded? And by the way Prince Charles is paying for the wedding so you needn't fret.

Lot's of people are getting jobs on the back of the wedding. It is estimated that it will boost the UK economy by £620 million.
