Why do we behave differently towards the rich?

Recommended Posts

I didnt say that. Whats my friends got to do with it?

but as a self employed person I understand that if you make a bit of money you want other people to know about it! otherwise whats the point of working hard??

Or don't your friends count as other people?

Don't tell me that you care about the opinions of people you don't even know???

You don't understand so go back and read the points again.

Im simply pointing out (one of the points) that guys go round a golf course or into meetings flashing watches etc. as a status thing, its how Business gets done in certain circles.

It's politics.

Business gets done on the basis of who has an expensive watch. What a load of tosh.

My views on whether this is vulgar are not doesnt actually matter. Because it happens and I understand why it happens.

If you say so.

You seem to be saying image doesnt matter? if you go into a funding meeting with private investors wearing shorts do you think people would invest in you?

Serious point.

During the week I drive a fairly modest car and I give out and receive courtesy from other road users.

Come the weekend I fetch something rather more expensive and prestigious out of my garage.

I offer the same amount of courtesy to other road users as I do in my day to day ride, but the reaction from them is totally different. They will not let me out at junctions or they look at me with disgust when they pull up next to me. Ridiculous when you think about it!

This attitude towards the rich has been further pointed out by many people who post on here. Another current thread points out the habit of people calling anyone wealthier than themselves a "ten bob millionaire".

Is this simply a case of jealousy or is there some other reason for this hatred of success?

It is just probably comments like in my bold, that rile people up.So tell us ,is it true that men with big/sporty, fancy cars have a small penis?

Oh I agree that image can be important, but there's a huge difference between creating your image and flashing your cash.

What you said earlier was that there was no point in being successful as a self employed person, unless it was obvious to others. Which is nothing to do with an image being presented to investors is it!

This is just about making sure that people (who I assumed to be your friends and acquaintances, but could also include clients and colleagues) know that you have a certain level of money.

It's because the idiots have failed in their own lives and hate people who do well.

Ruddy silly socialist crap about hard working people not deserving what they worked hard for because dole scroungers should be given a free living on their taxes.

I agree. I wish we could go back to what it was like to when people really earned their crust, literally. Like in the Victorian era. The people worked hard and if they didn't enjoy their 14 hour days and scummy housing conditions, they had the choice of workhouse or death. If they got lazy and found themselves unemployed they starved or got a new job. And there weren't many new jobs around back then.

They knew how to work, and how to look after themselves. They were so hard-working that they even sent their children to work to learn all about sticking their hands in dangerous machines. You don't need school when you've got a solid regular job, not like kids today.

Nail on the head upinwath, many people on here have extreme difficulty admitting it.
