Kaimani
That is exactly what equality means. It means that everyone is equal. What you're talking about is "equality of opportunity," which nobody has argued against yet. true. true. 'equality' in the classical Oxford dictionary sense of the word only works in the hard sciences, I'd say. but in the sense that 'equal rights', 'equality' etc are used in government policies etc, you're right, "equality of opportunity," is more apt. though the two are used interchangeably almost all the time. danot
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/gainHow bizzare. Why have you posted the literal definition of gain? I genuinely don't understand why you thought it necessary.

Now I see why you left school with very few qualifications. The only people who want equality are those who stand to benefit from equality. Wildcat
Agreed. But what do they stand to gain exactly? The only people that lose out are those with unfair privileges, and the gain of a fairer society offsets that.
Harleyman
I guess if Eistein had been living in a society that made equality obligatory he would have been told to lower his IQ

Kaimani
I guess if Eistein had been living in a society that made equality obligatory he would have been told to lower his IQ but, that's not the 'equality' society wants, though, is it, H? manofstrad
If everyone was equal, who would I employ? who would make stuff for me to sell? How could I entice people to take orders from me if the were equal in wealth to me!?? Equality just wouldn't work. End of silly thread.
