Draggletail
Picked it up on my travels.... It's a slim basket or cane thingy It houses four metal canisters with clips (to secure lids?) It has two fabric carrying handles on the basket. Looks like it's missing a lid? It looks old ........ What can it be? If you're right, you definitely deserve a fiver, haven't got one to spare though (Easter - ice creams and eggs to buy.....)

How much did you pay for the thing and where did you get it from.
esme
a carrier for cucumbers so posh people can have freshly made cucumber butties for all the guests when throwing impromptu garden parties in the middle of the moors ? there will probably be a portable wicker windmill for grinding flour and a mobile wicker bakery to go with it
mort
I think it's a hybrid between military technology and picnic equipment - Obviosly esme is on the right track with cucumbers and so is Bigthumb with tank shells. It is in fact a cucumber launcher and was invented to alleviate the tedium of garden parties allowing the more sporting guests the chance to pepper the lower orders with cucumbers

Mmm, didn't pay for it, acquired it whilst clearing out a cellar for someone - it was definitely in the 'to go' pile. Wish it had the ali caps for the tubes and the cane top - I guess they aren't too fussy about keeping these when on shelling duty! a carrier for cucumbers so posh people can have freshly made cucumber butties for all the guests when throwing impromptu garden parties in the middle of the moors ? there will probably be a portable wicker windmill for grinding flour and a mobile wicker bakery to go with it Ah, one of those 'Panama Hat' 1930s sort of jolly picnics. It could double up as a handy parasol holder on cloudy days
0742Sheff
Id say it's for transporting some sort of ammunition. I have seen them on TV and in films before but they had a leather satchel.
