Dog attacks on kids, why's it always a Staffy?

Recommended Posts

Yes use the Daily mail to back your argument. Gives it real weight.

Are you saying the story isn't true?

Take your blinkers off and try commenting on the story rather than the paper it appeared in. If it makes you feel better here's another link to the same story.

We used to have one AND a Yorkshire Terrier who bullied him and was the boss. None of us are, or were, chav scum and the dog was well socialised and a real softy. I would be more interested in this debate if it was backed by stats and real findings other than an article from some braindead rag.

I am sorry I don't remember saying the story wasn't true. I was amazed that you think using a link to the Mail will add credence to your theories and wild ideas that you purport to be facts. If one dog attacks me then all of its kind are the same? really?

Rickie are you a white male? Can I then claim that all white males are outrageously insane bigots because of my experience with you?

also you didn't say this thread was about the story, your title says that when a dog attacks a child it is always a staffy. Are we now just talking about the story or are we debating the story?

If it is your theory then my arguments stand. If it is the story then I will change my posts to "Oh ok" but as this is a forum for debate I assumed that what was what you were after was response to your theory that if one staffy attacks a child, therefore all attacks are by staffies.

I added the link about the staffy attacking cattle to refute the staffy owners' arguments on this thread that staffys are not naturally aggressive dogs.

If staffies randomly attack other animals regardless of their size, doesn't that prove that they are instinctively vicious and no matter how responsible the owner thinks he is, he can't breed that viciousness out of his dog?

You're so wrong...I have a staffy who has on numerous occasions been 'attacked' by little toy dogs because she wanted to play with them, not once has she ever gone back at them in any way, so that just disproves your theory straight away...

It seems it's not just kids, staffies are even starting to attack cows now!

Look at this recent story from the papers!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1383885/Horror-crazed-bull-terrier-clamps-jaws-round-neck-cow-attack-herd.html

I suppose staffy owners will say it was the cattle's fault for provoking the staffy and that they've got two lovely children and their dog would never do that.

In all fairness cattle have been attacked by all manner of dogs for hundreds of years. You chose to post this because it was being sensationalized with pictures.

You are just like all the rest of the blinkered muppets posting on this thread. You have based your opinion of the breed just from newspapers.

All dogs are potentially vicious and the staffy no more or less so. The trouble is they have amazing jaws and when they bite it can be hard to get them off. Add to this that a lot of pillocks own dogs and I will concede that what can be a pleasant dog with a wonderful temperament can become a nuisance. This leads on to a discussion about dog owners and licenses for me. Too many irresponsible people have dogs, which needs to be stopped.

I know dog licences weren't enforced well in the past but something could and should be done.

Out of the dozens of Staffords I have encountered, I have only ever seen one that was vicious and rather oddly it only ever attacked other dogs and the ragmans horse! I once saw the dog attack a stray dog then came and licked me, and as an eight year old boy I was freaked out as I had blood on me.

On the same street there was a greyhound which savaged cats and any children who got close enough.

On my paper round a German Shepherd which always tried to bite me and a rotweiler which made my life hell.

I was also dry humped by a Jack Russell when I was a toddler.......hang on that wasn't vicious, just a loving dog!?!?!?

So I think this thread is wrongly targeting a breed of dog when all dogs have the potential to turn.

Every breed of dog has the potential to attack cattle. That is why a farmer still has the right to shoot any dog on his land.

I suggest you stop typing before you show yourself up because the post i quoted here has been said over and over by other clueless people as well.

Try reading a thread before replying ;)

All dogs are naturally aggressive, prey hunting, meat eating animals. ALL breeds of dog have the instinct to hunt other animals. Unfortunately for staffies, and other bull breeds, having more powerful 'locking' jaws, they can do more damage than some other breeds. No dog should be attacking children, but if a dog isn't socialised with them well enough, and trained well enough by its owner, it may well do so, whether it is a staffy or not. Im sure staffies are not the only breed who attack farm animals either.
