It's offensive to people with mental illness or infirmity, it causes arguments, flaming, and basically it's just downright rude. State your case. I've occasionally used it to comment on my own ridiculous earlier posts, when I realise how ridiculous they were. It's hard to imagine any scenario where I could use a symbol to refer to you, unless I was deliberately trying to insult or offend you. On that basis, it's probably not a bad idea to get rid of it.
