alternageek
Also dont forget most US banks will charge anywhere from $1 to $3 for using an ATM. HSBC are in the US, so may want to keep a look out for those banks as they wont charge their customers the fee..
JFKvsNixon
Do American shops take Switch/Maestro cards? I'd like to visit the US one day (in fact I entered a competition last week to win a trip to Florida in July), due to personal circumstances I don't have a credit card you see, only debit card. You can get a Visa debit card.
Rupert_Baehr
You can get a Visa debit card. Which will work as a credit card in the US. - Transactions on foreign cards are cleared through Delaware (and that takes some time.) If you present a foreign Visa Debit card, the machine will handle it as a Visa Credit card.
Vantastic
I used the 'cash passport' With no problems, you'll always get charged commission/fees regardless of which method you use
the_mandarin
Has anyone used any of the cards from Phones4U? http://www.travel-money-cards.co.uk/ On paper, they seem to be the best deal with no charges for loading money on to the card and no ATM fees either. Twiglet
If you do plan to use your debit card to withdraw cash, do remember to let your bank know first. I tried to withdraw cash in the US last year and my bank immediately put a block on my card and I had to call them at significant cost to get them to lift it.
