Pakistan allows transgenders to be a gender

Recommended Posts

As per title. What a progressive move for what is often seen as a backwards country.

Pakistan's Supreme Court ruled today that the country's transsexual citizens will be allowed to have their own gender category on official documents, including their national identity cards!

Such an amazing step forward! We couldn't be more proud of the government for for taking such a positive, accepting, and proactive step toward equal rights!

Thank you, guys! Hopefully other countries - including the United States - will follow suit!

Pakistani authorities hold them in high esteem !

... But Pakistan's Supreme Court now says that transgenders should also be allocated a certain number of government jobs.

It specifically recommended they be appointed as tax collectors to utilise their "special skills".

Those special skills are already on display in Clifton one of Karachi's most affluent neighbourhoods.

There Shehzadi joins a group of theatrically dressed, heavily made-up transgenders can be seen sometimes strutting down the wide, quiet, tree-lined streets.

"We knock on the doors of people who haven't paid their taxes," she says.

"We tell them to pay up, but there are some who don't, so we stand on their doorstep and give them trouble and make a spectacle. Then to stop us attracting attention, they pay. I love the job, life's going well!"

...

Using what they see as 'freaks' to shame tax dodgers.

You seem to be happy about this progressive move !

That's great for a court but it's a pyrrhic victory.

How many people in Pakistan do you think will ask for their chosen third gender to be printed on their ID card in some areas? More than the fingers of two hands?

All depends on how many fingers,if any,are left after applying for card
