Stag Do Ideas?? Adventure / Activity Day - Yorkshire

Hi Chris,

I've probably missed your stag do but found the thread so thought I'd add a couple of suggestions for others looking. The Knaresborough bed race is something that would be a great focus for a stag do if you've got a bit of time. Check out the official website: http://www.knaresborough.co.uk/bedrace/

After running around the (narrow) streets of Knaresborough, you end up having to cross the river pushing the 'bed'. Fortunately there are frogmen there to pull you out if it gets too much.

Gorge walking is something that might also appeal if you're looking for an adventure feel. This isn't just walking, it usually involves sliding down rapids and dropping down waterfalls etc. How Stean Gorge in Nidderdale (near Pateley Bridge) is somewhere to do that. They have a stag do rate which is £50 for a few hours of fun so might be worth checking out. You can read all about it here: http://www.howstean.co.uk/groups/stag-and-hen

I know you said you wanted to avoid drinking but if some of your group fancy a pint, Masham is just over the hill and that's home to Theakstons & Black Sheep, both of which have brewery tours.

I don't know anywhere specifically but caving or potholing is something you can do in many places in Yorkshire and should be good for a group looking to keep costs down.

There's a Paragliding school in the Dales run by an ex UK champion so if you're looking for an adrenaline rush that could be just the job. Although at £150 for the Funday, I guess it'll be out of your budget. Take a look: http://www.activeedge.co.uk/fundays.php

If you want to stay in Yorkshire I know there is Go Ape at Dalby Forest which might fit your plans better than the suggestion above - I think they're all the same price.

If you've already had your stag, I hope it was a belter and if not I hope you find an idea that suits.

Good luck,

James

Ps. Sorry the links aren't clickable - the system disables links until I post some more :-(
