darrendpc
I had a mondeo, 2 litre, it cost me lots to tax. yet my insurance was £77 per month. I have recently downgraded my car to a 1.4litre, assuming i would be saving on the insurance. In actual fact they told me it would be an ADDITIONAL £60 per month. I couldnt believe it, so i have cancelled it. Il have to shop around again now, but first signs arent looking good. I cant believe they get away with charging people so much, its an absolute joke. Ive never made a claim in my time driving, 7 years, never had an accident, never had any points. I thought it would go down with experience, but it seems to be costing me as much now as it did when i first started driving. Total and utter rip off merchants. Its alright, i won't eat this week because i need to keep my car on the road to keep my job.

kevcookie
It is some time since I worked in insurance but basically insurance is worked out on a statistical basis so certain areas, cars, driving age etc make the premium more expensive. Some companies specialise in certain areas or cars etc and some won't touch them because their research shows an higher chance of claim. It is hard to access which insurer will be the best to go with until you obviously need their claims service. Often the cheapest may well be a good one to go with. My advice would be check and double check the cover provided, excesses, personal injury cover etc and go with whichever sounds like what you require.
