clare
Question: why did you book a holiday to dubai?? seems to be an odd destination for a holiday! For thirty years, the city in the desert has had unprecedented success; today the financial crisis is eating away at its eroding foundations and exposing its underbelly. Slavery is rampant. they came from Bangladesh, from the Philippines, from Ethiopia to share in the wealth only to end up as modern day slaves. Their passports are confiscated. Their wages are cut or never paid and they are brutally treated. In the shade or at the bar, the remaining expats and tourists turn a blind eye. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/the-dark-side-of-dubai-1664368.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/dubai/8449817/British-tourist-beaten-to-death-in-Dubai-prison-cell.html i don't think the murder of bin laden should be a concern if you are considering a holiday in dubai! mj.scuba
Death of OBL has had a strange effect. People that normally downplay any threat of terrorism are now talking it up just because one of them got killed.
Riche
Nojust make sure you are covered up. Apparantly bare flesh is big come on to Arabs who see women as something to be coverted. I think Sex plays heavy on their minds.

Indeed. I'd rather gouge out my eyes and have a rabid beaver chew of my testicles than go somewhere as morally and financially bankrupt as Dubai. [Matt]
If you feel in any sort of danger while you are there, just ask the local police for help. I understand they are really good with tourists... Oh. I lol'd
Thunzi
Eyup GazE, whereabouts do you live? Our friends are in Arabian Ranches and we've got a place in JLT (near Bonnington's, a pub thank God!). I'm sortin a lot of stuff out over here but can't wait to move. At the moment I live in accomodation paid for by work, so am close to the office in Bur Dubai. Got to get my own place this month, think it'll be in Business Bay due to it being in middle of where I work and best going out places. Living up at the Marina is nice for the weekend, but it's about an hours commute to work, each way, so not that bothered about doing it really. Dubai is very long and not very wide, so living at one end isn't great if you need to get down to the otherside. JLT is meant to be really nice, as are the Ranches. I really love it here so far, been here nearly 2 months already, its flown by.
Glennis
I don't think you will have any problems in Dubai.
0114owl1867
i'd go and keep a low profile, stay by the pool, stay away from casinos, tourist attractions etc, i know thats what you go on your jols for, but this time just go and get some sun on your backs
