Alcoblog
I've got two tree stumps in my garden. These were both mature (no jokes please!)sycamore trees last year . The stumps are about 18inches in diameter ... I need to get rid of them quickly! Will hydroflouric acid dissolve them? If so, where do I get it from ... guess I'll need a good few gallons. megalithic
Manual labour, or a digger if you can afford one.
pinklady
digging them out would be the quickest - we've even tied a rope around the stumps and used a 4x4 to drag them out!

Dozy
Instead of getting rid of them, with all the time and effort that will entail, why not turn them into a decorative feature? If you happened to have the odd Fray Bentos tin lying around, you could easily make a haven for our feathered friends - feeding bowls, water bowls, perhaps even nests.
