meyouus
What are these legitimate techniques? hooding, sleep deprivation, stress positions.
Kaimani
no its not, but that seems to be how its defined these days. how would you define it?
Kaimani
Calm down, paddy is a good bloke. and we agree on the issue as far as not using torture. The issue i wish to debate is the definition of torture. im of the opinion that the insane liberals have defined torture to include ligitimate interrorgation techniques. and rabid right wingers would have 'legitimate interrogation techniques' include everything just short of killing a man. Chris_Sleeps
hooding, sleep deprivation, stress positions. All tactics used by the Japanese on our soldiers in WW2, and more. We don't consider them legitimate, do we?
meyouus
how would you define it? Id start by saying anything that leaves permanent physical scars or disability. extreme pain, or prolonged pain.
Chris_Sleeps
... and the mental effects?
meyouus
All tactics used by the Japanese on our soldiers in WW2, and more. We don't consider them legitimate, do we? We did, but im alittle out of date. The 'and more' was for the most part actual torture.
Kaimani
Id start by saying anything that leaves permanent physical scars or disability. extreme pain, or prolonged pain. like 'stress positions'. and, like chris says, what about the kinds that give people nightmares for years, inability to stand loud noises, fear of sudden noises... Chris_Sleeps
The 'and more' was sadism, brutality and murder. If your point is that 'interrogation techniques' are legitimate, then they are also legitimate when used against us. Is it okay to make a British soldier stay awake for a week, hood him and make him stand on one leg while balanced on a box?
meyouus
... and the mental effects? This is the tricky bit. mental effects, prolonged interrorgation initself would be torture and some individuals would be able to take more than others. So setting a time limit would not work.
