2011 local election results - the national picture

Recommended Posts

So following the English Council Elections the Conservatives now have 4820 councillors up 81 on the day. This compares with Labour who now have 2392 councillors.

The conservatives now control 157 English Councils. 4 more than before the election. This compares to 57 councils under Labour control.

I find it very odd that Labour seem to be targetting the Lib/Dems who are probably not going to be in contention come the next election.

We decided last year who we wanted for five years. Thankfully most politicians of all parties have a longer concentration span that a goldfish or you.

No we didn't this goldfish remembers that no one won and the people certainly didn't vote for this right wing government and it's policies

But you havent got a right wing govt. You have a tory led coalition where the Junior partner( the Lib Dems) have managed to get through 75% of its manifesto pledges, compared to the tories 60%

if the lib dems really have got 75% of their manifesto in the agreement doesn't that make them a right wing party?

Last night the BBC was saying that eleven hundred Tory councilors gone would be a disaster, and 700 gone a Tory victory, with anything between a draw, yet today when the Tories have actually gained 130+ councilors there is no mention anywhere of a stunning Tory victory?

Just a thought.

they only gained 81 councillors.

They know that doesn't work. England is so solidly Conservative that even if every single Scottish MP was Labour, you still wouldn't get a Labour government.

That is true but a Labour government can get in if enough people in the south of England vote for them. However, even if that happened they wouldn't get in if there was a majority of SNP MP's returned.

Therefore at a Westminster election a lot of people who voted SNP last week would vote labour in the hope that England returned enough Labour to keep the Conservatives out.

I dont think you understand.75% of what we wanted , not 75% of what the Tories wanted. It is a coalition.
