Yog Sothoth
My only two gripes about the venue are the temperature, which was over 90F last night, and the fact that Ponds Forge won't allow any food concessions. Drinkers have to leave their beer in the hall and go use the sports centre cafe, which last night closed at 7.30! Not very reasonable of them! They should at least allow some cold food concessions if they aren't providing food themselves! Expecting people to go all evening without food is unfair, to both the punters and Sheffield CAMRA. The chippy round the corner on Commercial Street was doing a roaring trade however! I must say, considering the weather, I can't help wishing it was still in the park! rickiethecat
I must say, considering the weather, I can't help wishing it was still in the park! It's ironic isn't it that in previous years it's been cold and wet at this time of year so people complained about shivering in a big tent in a muddy field but their changing the venue to a sweltering warm indoor location coincides with the hottest spell of the year! Yog Sothoth
Sod's law. It's still a great beer festival.

It must be frustrating for Sheffield CAMRA. Hold it in the cemetery and we get horrible weather and it turns into a mudfest. Hold it at Pond's Forge and we get a heatwave! That said I do prefer Pond's Forge a a venue. There are issues with lack of food, and the beer token system used at the festival is still too phaffy for my taste but all in all my visit last night was more enjoyable then my previous visits when it was in the Cemetery. Plus there is room for future expansion in that hall.
Stoatwobbler
A very good selection of beers, although Brewdog are conspicuous by their absence. Have you tried the Brodies Hackney Red IPA? Thet was the best beer I had last night and if you like 5AM Saint then you'll love that!
quisquose
Is there still going to be plenty of beer left tomorrow evening?
smithy266
I wanted to go last night, but couldn't. Instead, I had to make do with a crawl from the Coach and Horses back home via the Dronfield Arms and the Three Tuns.
Andy C
Just to answer a few comments above... the cafe was supposed to stay open late but there was a breakdown in communication within the catering organisation and it shut at the normal time, however they did allow people to bring food in from the chippy. The heat in the hall was due to the air conditioning breaking down The beer prices are a standard mark up from what the brewery charges us and is in line with most city centre pubs and bars. Some that seem expensive are generally new/rare/specialist beers or have been sourced through a distributor that has specially brought the beers a long distance. Prices start from £2.40 a pint (or £1.20 a half). And yes, plenty of beer, cider and perry to go at, we've also got old school pub games and tombola and live music Friday and Saturday night. Yog Sothoth
Well said Andy C. Glad the temperature and food issues weren't the norm. It would be great in the park of course but this is proper freaky weather. Mud would be more likely most years.
