Mecky
How to make yourself even more popular. Don't say you weren't warned. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/may/12/tory-council-charge-children-playground?INTCMP=SRCH
arctic
Good idea, children shouldn't expect to get everything for free.

alchresearch
A park in Bolton has a funfair. Is it unreasonable to charge for that also? A survey carried out at the playground by the council revealed that half of the children came from neighbouring boroughs. "Why should Wandsworth taxpayers subsidise children from other boroughs?" a council spokesperson said. Seems fair to me.
Chris_Sleeps
A park in Bolton has a funfair. Is it unreasonable to charge for that also? If the council paid for it and built it, yes. If it is a private enterprise, no.
arctic
If the council paid for it and built it, yes. If it is a private enterprise, no. So our local councils should make no money no matter what they provide, yet if it's private, they're fine to charge?
Chris_Sleeps
So our local councils should make no money no matter what they provide, yet if it's private, they're fine to charge? Exactly, yes. If the "funfair" is on council land then they will receive a rent, and the private enterprise will make their profits. If the "funfair" or park is run by the council, then it should be free to everyone. Awful idea. Profit profit profit. Charging kids to go on a park their parents have paid to build is awful. alchresearch
Charging kids to go on a park their parents have paid to build is awful. So what about this quote I posted: A survey carried out at the playground by the council revealed that half of the children came from neighbouring boroughs. "Why should Wandsworth taxpayers subsidise children from other boroughs?" a council spokesperson said.
Chris_Sleeps
Because Wandsworth taxpayers are free to get on a tube and go to Regent's Park, or any other park they choose. Why are we limiting access to only people who live in the area? I don't understand why they've built a park that needs 'safety wardens'. Surely they knew the cost of that when they started building. A smaller park that is free is much more economical than building something that is "more than swings and roundabouts". Leave the grand money-making 'adventure playgrounds' to private enterprise. That is a core Tory idea, surely?
