madasfish
Good idea, children shouldn't expect to get everything for free. Arh - so it'll be up the chimneys for them then will it to enable them to value paying for their play. Oopps - forgot no chimneys, no coal , no miners. Cyclone
Exactly, yes. If the "funfair" is on council land then they will receive a rent, and the private enterprise will make their profits. If the "funfair" or park is run by the council, then it should be free to everyone. Awful idea. Profit profit profit. Charging kids to go on a park their parents have paid to build is awful. So the council shouldn't charge for anything? All services have to be free at the point of use? No matter whether they're something extra or not? Chris_Sleeps
So the council shouldn't charge for anything? I've changed my mind. You're correct. You know what I've always hated. Them kids that use the grass, the cheeky devils. Let's charge them a fiver to run on the grass. It doesn't cut itself - these kids need to learn. Football games, jumpers for goalposts. £10 please. Those chalk lines don't draw themselves. That goalpost didn't put itself up. Are you looking at a squirrel? That'll be £15 please. We need to pay to look after the trees. eastbank
Because Wandsworth taxpayers are free to get on a tube and go to Regent's Park, or any other park they choose. Why are we limiting access to only people who live in the area? I don't understand why they've built a park that needs 'safety wardens'. Surely they knew the cost of that when they started building. A smaller park that is free is much more economical than building something that is "more than swings and roundabouts". Leave the grand money-making 'adventure playgrounds' to private enterprise. That is a core Tory idea, surely? isnt there a park in rotherham that charges you to use the rides...and didn't you used to pay to use the boating lake at millhouses...nothing new with this one...at least down south they are not cutting services to the elderly...think they are bumping the money up... HeadingNorth
Because Wandsworth taxpayers are free to get on a tube and go to Regent's Park An excellent example; yes they are, but not into the zoo. They (and everyone else) can still go to this park without paying, but not into the adventure playground.

Nobody has suggested they should charge for everything, and nobody is likely to either.
Mecky
What are they going to do, fence it off and put turnstiles on the entrances? I thought the cost of such utilities was already covered by local council funding.
peewee84
Threads like this puzzle me sometimes....complaining about Government and their policies/decisions....but somebody voted them in....oh yes, that was us, Britain, wasn't it?

Sounds like you're angry because you will now be charged to go play on your favourite set of swings.
