Facebook is it time for me to move on?

Recommended Posts

Wow this one's got bitchy quick!

I don't see a problem with Concious posting this thread, is it any more pointless than half the existing threads?

I don't use facebook but I've witnessed the pointless way in which many people use it for attention seeking or just to nosey at each other's uber-vain posing pictures.

Fine if you want to actually use it as a communication tool, but a lot of people clearly don't.

I find these threads a bit weird. You wouldn't start a thread saying how you've got bored of email would you?

If you've got 240 'friends' but would only keep contact details for 3 then you've misunderstood what 'friend' means.

Personally I find it pretty useful for sharing photos, organising evenings out, dinner parties and trips to the cinema, I find it a way to see what my friends have been doing without having to phone them up and ask them (which in itself would be weird).

Use it or don't, but I don't see the need to start a thread about how you don't want to use it.

Why not start a thread about it? Its such a big part of society today, why would somebody not start a thread asking how other people feel about it? I particularly found this thread interesting...

And I can completely understand how the OP feels, Facebook is like a drug. You know the stuff on there is complete rubbish, half of your "friends" on there aren't friends at all, you find out things that don't do you any good such as how in love your ex is with his amazing new partner (complete with happy, smiling pic of them together), you see when people break up, get back together, a relative dies, what someone has just had for tea, who they are gona "knock out" the next time they see them....

There are just some things in life that need to be kept private, things only those who are closest to us should know. Facebook is free access to everyone of your life, which effectively turns into a soap opera....

Yet we can't seem to pull ourselves away from it.... I know so many people who feel exactly the same, keep deactivating their accounts only to be drawn back again because they feel they are missing out on something.....

And I find this very interesting myself, the reasons behind it and so on. One of my favourite quotes from one of my REAL friends on Facebook is "In the end, Facebook will ruin it all".

PS Of course, not everybody is going to agree and there are those people who find it a very useful tool in their lives. Like everything, it has it's advantages and disadvantges. I live in a different country from my family and I find it useful to be in touch too, but if I didn't have it available, I'd still keep in touch with my family via another method..

You need friends to use Facebook, dear. Try a dating site. :)

Judging by your signature with it's aberrant apostrophe, it's yourself that needs educating.

You are a well known banned user under yet another pseudonym - just though I'd point that out lest you start getting above your station.

What you on about time to move on? Facebook is handy at times and nice to keep in contact with people and to be nosey at pictures, this doesnt mean you have to update your status or put pictures on. It in a sense your a Sheffield Forum member, just with a bit more intrusion..

Facebook can be used however you want. It is the people that you choose to be Facebook "Friends" with that determine what experience you have with it. I think the best way to use it is to only have people you are genuinely friends with as Facebook Friends.

Facebook can be like crack. It's no good, yet I still can't help but to use it.

When I say use it, I never make status updates, I rarely upload pictures, rarely post anything, it makes me cringe the amount of attention seeking I see on there....

John Smith had a great time with @Jane Brown today xx. Very interesting I'm glad to know this piece of useful information, and so is everyone else by the look of all the 'like' comments on this garbage. Obviously they couldn't tell the other person thmselves this in person, it is far more important to let everyone else know.

Jane Smith is at Yates wid d gurls tym 2 get hamered. but i dred cumin bk 2 an empty hous wen i get bak xxxx Excellent. I fancy a new TV and DVD player. I think I'll go help myself to your goods while you're not at home.

Utter dribble, and I have got nothing but bad things to say about it, yet I still go on. :loopy:

This.

I dread to think how much of my time has been swallowed up reading the nonsense status updates what people post.:loopy:

I think my friend list is seriously lacking quality. A lot of the posts are glorified tourettes, some of them have a public rant every half hour. Why? :loopy:

Laura Smith says: I Love my boyfriend so much and can't wait to marry him xxxxxxxxxxxxx These are my favourite ones, I wonder if her boyfriend knows how many blokes she's messed about with behind his back.

David Smith says: Only 3 days to go until the weekend begins

Yes I know what day it is thanks. :|

Exactly thank you.

I guess my point is I don't understand how I keep reactivating when I know its complete garbage and a waste of my time. It is like a drug as you say.

Personally I keep in touch with people who I want to talk to with my phone, no problems. Most of my real friends are quiet as a mouse on facebook, but I can talk and have a laugh for hours with them when we do meet up.

I agree it is very useful for some people. Long distance communication etc. I guess I am lucky to have everyone who I class as real friends and family close to me anyway.

I've deactivated again anyway. I wonder how long it will last this time.

I am one who used facebook on my PC, as it infuriated me even more on facebook mobile, my phone beeping only to see some randomer asking what I am up to. lol

My PC can be used for many other things that are more important or enjoyable, I'm in the middle of building a website, or was, until I got distracted by drivel :hihi: Also I think I am going to get back into producing music again. That really helps me to relax, facebook just takes up time that could be spent better for me.
