MC Spyda
Actually yes there is. It's called perverting the course of justice; trying to prevent the law enforcement authorities from catching people who are breaking the law. But if you use a detector and make sure you slow down, then you wont be breaking the law. It's a good thing if anything. Even people who are very careful with their speed, may just want to use a detector to make doubly sure that they don't speed. Is there a problem with that? HeadingNorth
But if you use a detector and make sure you slow down, then you wont be breaking the law. A detector of speed cameras tells you nothing about how fast you should be going. You'd need a detector of speed limit signs for that. A detector of cameras serves one purpose and one purpose only - to make sure that you're only speeding in places you don't get caught.

Using that argument we should all have our eyes surgically removed.
HeadingNorth
Using that argument we should all have our eyes surgically removed. You need eyes in order to check what the speed limit is. Knowing where the speed cameras are is irrelevant to what speed you are doing. You need speed limit signs for that.
MC Spyda
So HN believe that no one should have more aids at their disposal that help them to keep to the speed limit. Fair enough. Each to their own.
HeadingNorth
So HN believe that no one should have more aids at their disposal that help them to keep to the speed limit. I'm all in favour of things that tell you what the speed limit is and to slow down to get within it. Camera detectors don't do that! They only tell you where cameras are, not what the speed limit is. MC Spyda
Exactly, they tell you where the cameras are, which in turn tells you that you need to watch your speed, which in turn can help save lives. There is nothing wrong with making doubley sure that you are not speeding.
HeadingNorth
Exactly, they tell you where the cameras are, which in turn tells you that you need to watch your speed You need to watch your speed at all times, not just where cameras are. The only purpose in being more careful where cameras are than where they are not, is to avoid getting caught. Which brings us back to perverting the course of justice. HeadingNorth
Explain to me how not speeding, is perverting the course of justice? As I've already pointed out at least four times - a camera detector does not help to avoid speeding. It only helps to tell you where cameras are. To avoid speeding you need to actually look at the speed limit signs, and your speedometer. A camera detector does not help with either. Ergo, the desire to fit a camera detector has nothing to do with wanting to avoid speeding - it has to do with wanting to avoid being caught by a camera.
