whitehorses
Some intelligence, but mostly a good memory, unless someone has to create something new for their exam or an assessment, then it's only intelligence as memory has little to do with it ! dabuckle
10 years of intense education then a few hours to right it all down on paper thats why I disagree with the Eduction System. Its not the way to test a child's capability of knowledge.
HeadingNorth
It depends on the style of the exam; old-style school exams only required you to parrot back what you're read, or had dictated to you by the teacher. You can pass those with an IQ of 60 if your memory is good. On the other hand, there is no accepted definition of intelligence to begin with, so it's hard to argue that anything can prove someone has it. HeadingNorth
As long as you can read, it's possible to write out a complete and 100% accurate exam paper without understanding a single word of it. As to what level of IQ is considered to mean "capable of reading but not of comprehension," I admit I don't know. 60 sounded right, assuming that 100 is average, 150 is genius and 0 means you're incapable of coherent thought. bob1
do good exam results prove intelligence or a good memory Depends on the subject, purpose and level of the exam. Exams are written differently and demand different things from the entrant depending on the qualification being sought.
HeadingNorth
why do you have to revise if not to refresh the memory Some people don't. I have known a few with photographic memories: some had brains to go with it, and some were dumber than a sack of mice.
Obelix
It depends on how the examination is written really.. You can examine factual recall eg "Who was Prime Minister in 1948" which is a pure memory test. Or you can phrase the question to test the understanding of theory and logical deductions from that, eg "What is the effect of biasing a varicap diode in an oscillator circuit feeding a radio transmitter" The simple answer is really, that there is no simple answer. It depends entirely on how the exam is written but generally exams these days don't check facts and memory recall as these can usually be looked up. Exams, at least technical ones test the principles and unerlying theories.
