fisch
report him to do his job he needed access to the boiler, gas meter, gas fire if you have one and hot water tap and would have took him a grand total of about 15 minutes kier only do the basic checks needed and not a full service or as said above if was checking your fire and noticed a problem he could have been checking for fumes escaping, but i would have exspected the engineer to say to you that he needed to check the chimney in the loft and not to change his mind when he noticed you there, dont get me wrong im no expert just going on previous experience ive always found you get a better check when hireing someone for the job than when kier engineers come out
Guest
This gas engineer actually deserves a big pat on the back. What he was actually doing is checking that the chimney (which passes through the loft) was intact. He will have popped a smoke pellet in the chimney behind the fire downstairs, and was checking in the loft to make sure smoke wasnt leaking into the loft. I have seen chimneys where the mortar between the bricks has worn away and have had to condemn the fire for this reason. He was in fact doing his job spot on to the gas regulations and was acting in the your best interests. There are alot out there which do not check because they cant be bothered, and by the sounds of it you've witnessed this in the past. If your chimney was breached in the loft and it wasnt checked, it is possible that the fumes from the fire could enter the loft, then seep through the ceiling and into the bedrooms, where they could overcome you in your sleep. I hope now you know this guy wasnt being dodgy or suspicious, and in future if the gas engineer who visits doesnt inspect your loft space, I suggest you report him immediately. I'm You're not very clear about what happened. Did he actually check the loft or not? And what was it about his manner that made you suspicious of him wanting to look in your loft? What have you got to hide?
