Shogun
It depends on what engine you have. Fuel filters for some modern diesel engines can cost between £30 - £40 just for the part. If you're going to use bio in a high pressure common-rail engine, best not to just make your own fuel. Get some professional advice on what's best for your particular engine. Escort filters are £3 shogun filters are £5,dont think its a good idea to put any non standard fuels in some of the modern diesel cars it will void any guarantee you have with the car,but it can be a money saver with the older type of diesel burners, having said that I have seen a lot of modern cars filling up with bio fuels including Citroen and Renault so I guess they must run on it or the owners would not use it. Yes they would just to save money but don't realise it's a false economy due to needing new filters etc and still need to put normal diesel in as well
jimmy62alan
cars and vans can run on raw processed cooking oil but the first sign of a chill in the air and the vehicle won't start, this is because the cooking oil turns to a thick jell and blocks up the fuel system. It is vital that all waste is properly processed and prepare for your vehicle, if not on that cold morning you will have a blocked system and it can be blocked anywhere in the fuel system. Do the research and prep work and you will save you self a huge fortune, I'm still working on the smell of fishshops thou LOL. ALAN
jimmy62alan
Just a note to all motobility car drivers and contract hire vehicles. If you look at the lease contract it does clearly state that using biofuels of any kind will make the contract nul and void or something along those lines. iansheff
A colleague of mine produces his own, he has 3 x 45 gallon drums and has fabricated a cladded lean to that has the pumps and filters in. He has used it on his Jeep and is now using it on an old peugeot. I know he filters it beyond what is recommended to get rid of as many of the impurities as possible. It costs him pence to run his vehicles as opposed to what most people have to pay, no wonder he looks so smug when the price of fuel is mentioned. Shogun
If VOSA stop you when you have bio or cooking oil in your car there is nothing they can do about it if you have a receipt from a reputable bio fuel supplier,I buy a tenners worth off them every now and again and they give you a receipt saying that you have paid a bit of tax on it,the VOSA hate it as non of there machines can tell what oils you have in the tank or where it came from, I don't think it will be long before the government start putting dyes or somthing in the bio fuels like they do with red diesel so you have pay more tax on it. That's great for Escort or Shogun owners, but bringing things more up to date, a 1.6 Tdci Ford Focus fuel filter can cost as much as £52 (for a quality brand up to OEM standards) seen here.
