Did anyone ever play there football on Wadsley Common (mid 60's) (actually on the common not were Sheffield Rangers or Maccabi played). As you went up there was a burnt out shack to get changed into. On the left (the flatter pitch had a great big rock as the centre spot). While on the right it was like playing on a hillside. If you were defending down hill you very rarely got out of your own half. That is until you turned round. Was never so glad to play the away matches there pitches couldn't be any worse,

I once played on that very pitch for Colly Young Socialists in a cup game. We were top of the South Yorkshire League and drew Wadsley Church on the common. I remember the chicken hut we got got changed in with no lights or anywhere to hang your stuff. The boulder in the middle of the pitch was bloody deadly. We lost for the first time that season it was a nightmare.

Played there a few times in the 60's. As the lads I played with all hailed from the Addy street /Martin street /Crookesmoor area and played on what was to become the Poderosa (also the TIP before that)we needed a pitch with proper goals, this was the only pitch we could get. Had to get there by bus No. 14 (or was it 13?) Wisewood to Malin bridge and then we walked for what seemed like ages.

I recall an old wooden shed where both teams had to get changed and the sloping pitch which helped me score when I scuffed the ball and it was only the slope gave it enough impetus to cross the line . It was also very windy up there as I recall.

Forgot that you played on it Ian. It's now overgrown and you would have never have realised there were pitches. No there shouldn't have been.

Yes - I remember it - getting changed in what looked like an allotment shed - a butt of rainwater if you wanted a wash - sheep grazing all over the place - sleet, strong winds.

Played there only the once fortunately.
